Some flowers arrive

Frances regards August as the start of the period when flowers arrive - particularly the wattles.  The real show comes towards the end of the month but we do have a few out already.

This image of Acacia dealbata was taken against a background of gathering rain clouds (we, and the countryside, hope).
This second image of A dealbata shows how the species adds colour to a drab Kunzea landscape.
Here is a close up of A dealbata with sunshine!

At a more terrestrial level A. Boormanii (Snowy River Wattle - an escapee from gardens) is going great guns.
Hopefully the Forces of Botanical Purity will keep their secateurs away as they do look pretty.  It looks quite different in a heavy fog!

In terms of poverty stricken flowering, IMHO A. gunnii is more deserving of the vernacular name.  Very few flowers on the main stems.  However the detail of the flower is very attractive.
On 9 August I finally found my first example of flowering Hardenbergia.  As always a very cheery sight.
Keeping at the mauve etc end of the spectrum here is the first flowering Hovea: found on 15 August.
I went on an orchid check and only found a lot of leaves, amidst some (relatively) photogenic moss.
